Britney’ safety advice for New Year’s: ‘Arrive together, stick together and leave together’

LA Times — Pop star Britney Spears is offering some helpful advice for people who’ll be partying along the Las Vegas Strip on New Year’s Eve.

Spears usually shows plenty of skin in her show “Britney: Piece of Me” at Planet Hollywood. But for the public service announcement for Party Smart in Las Vegas, she wears a prim long-sleeved black top with white Peter Pan collar.

The singer is grabbing well-deserved attention with the new public service campaign and video. Spears appears on billboards and in TV spots airing on Sin City stations.

“When I’m with friends, we make this promise to each other: Arrive together, stick together and leave together,” she says in the short video.

“Remember: Have fun, but play it safe and party smart,” she adds.

The tips, of course, apply to partying any day of the year – and anywhere. But they are particularly relevant amid huge throngs of New Year’s Eve revelers that descend on Las Vegas each year.

The Rape Crisis Center in Las Vegas created the message and the campaign. Executive director Daniele Dreitzer said the intended audience is people aged 18 to 25, male and female.

The advice includes the following pointers:

— Get your own drinks and don’t leave them unattended.

— Make sure your phone is charged and check in frequently with friends.

— If a friend has been drinking, don’t let them leave with someone they just met.

— Know your surroundings and, if you’re concerned, use security officers as a resource.

Nearly a third of a million people are expected to pack Sin City to welcome 2016. Party Smart in Las Vegas provides further suggestions for having fun and avoiding trouble.
